Red
Cross Guard Class
Successful
completion of the Red Cross Life Guard class qualifies you for a great flexible
part-time job. The class includes CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
and First Aid. Age requirement is 15 years old by completion of the
course.
You must be able to pass the prerequisites and swimmers will be tested prior to the first day of class to confirm qualification. Call Director Julie Hill for registration information. Pre-requisite includes a 300-yard continuous swim using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both (cannot swim on back or side). Tread water without support using only legs and without stopping for 2 minutes. Only legs can be used and hands must be held in armpits. Head must stay above water. Swim 20 yards and place a 10-pound brick at 7-10’ depth without using goggles. In a 1-minute 40 seconds timed event participants must swim 20 yards with face in or out of water, then surface dive feet-first or head-first to retrieve a 10-pound brick at a depth of 7-10’. Return to surface and swim 20 yards back to starting point with both hands holding brick and holding face at or near water level so breathing is possible. (underwater swimming not permitted). Exit water without using ladder or steps.
Attendance at all classes is mandatory.
Call Julie Hill, Pool Director (810) 626-2279 to register and schedule
pre-testing. Class will be cancelled if minimum of 8 participants is not
met. Successful completion of this
course does not constitute employment at the HCAFC. Please be aware that Hartland can only employ
