Minutes from the September 11, 2007 PTO Meeting:
Minutes of the September 11, 2007 meeting were read individually.  A motion was made, seconded, and minutes were approved by the membership as written.

  Treasurer’s Report:
Keenan Simpson, Principal, provided a brief overview of the PTO financial report, as the Treasurer was not present.

  Old Business:
It was reported that the Book Fair was well received.  In addition, the announcement was made that three parents volunteered to coordinate the Farms yearbook for this school year.

Mr. Simpson stated that the fall fundraiser was again a success.  As of this date, students earned a total of 37 limousine rides and sales reached the amount required to host a “mega party” at Farms.

  New Business:
Mr. Simpson requested approval for the expense associated with purchasing rubber bracelets to support the “Reason/Respect/Responsibility” program at the school.  He indicated that bracelets would be distributed to those students who are observed demonstrating these exemplary behaviors.  In addition, he spoke of the possibility of forming an “R3” club, which would be celebrated at an end of the year event.

A motion was made, seconded, and approved for payment of this expense in the amount of $1,013.99.

Then, Mr. Simpson discussed implementation of a new math learning program which would provide the opportunity to diagnose student weaknesses in math skills and offer interactive lessons in the necessary area(s).  This program would require purchase of several data projectors (3) in the amount of $715.00 each.

A motion was made, seconded, and approved for purchase of three data projectors, plus shipping costs, in an amount not to exceed $2,600.00.

Mr. Simpson informed the PTO that he booked Jonathan Rand, well-known author of the Michigan Chillers book series to visit Farms during reading month.  He anticipated the cost for this assembly to be $2,000.00, an amount covered in the budget of $3,500.00.  Following discussion regarding the possibility of securing additional assembly opportunities, it was recommended that the assembly budget be increased to $4,000.00.  Further discussion on this subject will occur at a later date.

Discussion ensued regarding fifth grade camp.  It was reported that $5,100.00 had been budgeted for bus transportation in the past.  Mr. Simpson recommended that $5,500.00 be encumbered for this school year, although it was agreed that a firm cost would be secured prior to the next PTO meeting.  Additionally, Mr. Simpson recommended that $4,000.00 be encumbered in the budget for camp scholarships.  It was agreed that this would be discussed at a later date.

Mr. Simpson informed the PTO of the “Adopt a Bus” program, began by several teachers at Farms.  He announced the September theme as bus safety (bus etiquette) and the October theme as manners (expressing yourself without anger; being kind to others).
