PTO Minutes
for October 9, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Susan Lintzenich, PTO
President.
Minutes from the September 11, 2007
PTO Meeting:
Minutes of the September
11, 2007 meeting were read individually.
A motion was made, seconded, and minutes were approved by the
membership as written.
Treasurer’s Report:
Keenan Simpson,
Principal, provided a brief overview of the PTO financial report, as the
Treasurer was not present.
Old Business:
It was reported that the
Book Fair was well received. In
addition, the announcement was made that three parents volunteered to
coordinate the Farms yearbook for this school year.
Mr. Simpson stated that the fall fundraiser was again a success.
As of this date, students earned a total of 37 limousine rides
and sales reached the amount required to host a “mega party” at
Farms.
New Business:
Mr. Simpson requested
approval for the expense associated with purchasing rubber bracelets to
support the “Reason/Respect/Responsibility” program at the school.
He indicated that bracelets would be distributed to those
students who are observed demonstrating these exemplary behaviors.
In addition, he spoke of the possibility of forming an “R3”
club, which would be celebrated at an end of the year event.
A motion was made, seconded, and approved for payment of this expense in
the amount of $1,013.99.
Then, Mr. Simpson discussed implementation of a new math learning
program which would provide the opportunity to diagnose student
weaknesses in math skills and offer interactive lessons in the necessary
area(s). This program would
require purchase of several data projectors (3) in the amount of $715.00
each.
A motion was made, seconded, and approved for purchase of three data
projectors, plus shipping costs, in an amount not to exceed $2,600.00.
Mr.
Simpson informed the PTO that he booked Jonathan Rand, well-known author
of the Michigan Chillers book series to visit Farms during
reading month. He
anticipated the cost for this assembly to be $2,000.00, an amount
covered in the budget of $3,500.00.
Following discussion regarding the possibility of securing
additional assembly opportunities, it was recommended that the assembly
budget be increased to $4,000.00. Further
discussion on this subject will occur at a later date.
Discussion ensued regarding fifth grade camp.
It was reported that $5,100.00 had been budgeted for bus
transportation in the past. Mr.
Simpson recommended that $5,500.00 be encumbered for this school year,
although it was agreed that a firm cost would be secured prior to the
next PTO meeting. Additionally,
Mr. Simpson recommended that $4,000.00 be encumbered in the budget for
camp scholarships. It was
agreed that this would be discussed at a later date.
Mr. Simpson informed the PTO of the “Adopt a Bus” program, began by
several teachers at Farms. He
announced the September theme as bus safety (bus etiquette) and the
October theme as manners (expressing yourself without anger; being kind
to others).
Administrative Report:
Keenan Simpson
reported on the status of the water situation which resulted in closing
school on this date. Mr.
Simpson confirmed that school would be in session on the following day.
He stated that the problem was with a switch in the boiler room.
Mr. Simpson reported that Hartland Community Schools was the only
district in
Livingston
County
to experience an increase in enrollment for the 2007 – 2008 school
year.
Announcements

It
was announced that MEAP testing would begin on October 10, 2007.
Tests will be given 2-3 days per week for 1.5 to 2.0 hours
each day.

A
teacher/staff dinner has been planned for Wednesday, November 7,
2007, during evening conferences
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Susan at
7:45 p.m. The next PTO
meeting date was announced as November 12, 2007.
